Abstract
This study is an exploratory study on the suicide prevention activity experience in the local community. Gangwon Provincial Mental Health Center initiated regional suicide prevention in 2014, ¡®Nurturing Community Gatekeepers for Suicide Prevention (NCGSP)¡¯.
Through the expansion of the program, they conducted in-depth training and education programs called ¡°Training actors of community for Suicide Prevention¡± for the Tong/ri Chiefs in their community. We conducted two focus group interviews (FGIs), a qualitative research method, with 9 people who completed the suicide prevention training and engaged NCGSP program in their community. As a result of the study, the NCGSP experience consisted of 39 sub-themes, which were grouped into 14 themes in terms of similarity. And it was rearranged into three analysis areas: ¡®suicide prevention method¡¯, ¡®Source of the strength of suicide prevention activity¡¯, and ¡®suicide prevention outcome¡¯. Through this, we suggested that for suicide prevention policy in the local community it is necessary to revive the sense of community and to expand the activities of suicide prevention actors and gatekeepers.
